Mtshalekwane
Mtshalekwane High School, with its 327 learners and 12 educators, is located in the deep rural areas, on the border to Swaziland and almost as close to Mozambique. The community where the learners are living is very poor and they are facing social challenges like a high rate of unemployment, lack of water, poor roads and no transport. The school have a shortage of classrooms, resulting in many classes held outdoors in the shade of the trees. Another challenge is a lack of teaching recourses and the fact that there are no computers.
In general people in the community doesn’t consider soccer important for girls, but the school management team is very supportive to the girls in the team. They encourage the girls to play soccer, and emphasises that soccer will help them live a healthy life, staying away from drugs. The team is coached by Mr Mabuyakhulu and they are practicing two times a week.
